i see through your dandelion umbrellas.
your sun-kissed hair, delicately scented with decay
your tattered clothes, price tag still attached.
fresh, sea-salt and vinegar
stinging with its first embrace
addictive, one after another
somebody's got to do it
does that mean you?
you can get there, but
you won't. you've given up.
you know exactly what you want.
admit it.
distracting facades of colors and patterns,
becoming quite the expert, you know,
even fooling yourself.
(i told you so)
sugar, honey, sweet pea
these syrupy names don't fool me.
i'd like to think,
were our situations reversed
i'd have tried.
not died.
I love the first line about "dandelion umbrellas." That's just such a fascinating image to me...the fact that pretty little flowers can be such strong, shading umbrellas. And the lines about sea salt and vinegar are just as powerful as well...and the "syrupy names"...
ReplyDeleteI would probably go on and on forever, but I should stop myself ;) I just love your piece and all the words inside it WAY TOO MUCH. What a great start to April.
Haha thanks Maya, you're so sweet! :)
